Blogging has become increasingly popular with the easiness of programs such as WordPress, or Blogger.com. With Blogger.com you can start a blog for free, pay absolutely nothing upfront, and start writing. The number one reason most people start a blog, is because they want to make money. They hear all this talk about how “blogging can make you money,” or “earn money fast with blogging.” But the reality is, it takes A LOT of time to develop readers that want to come back everyday to read what you have to offer. It might be free in a financial sense, but it’s very expensive when it comes to time.
Blogging can generate revenue with PPC (Pay Per Click) advertisements such as Google AdSense. Now, setting up a blogger and an AdSense is very easy, but is it going to actually generate you revenue? If you’re dedicated to it, then it most certainly will. Over time you will see your site growing (expecting you continue to write). 99% of people who start blogging for money, will fail. Only 1% will actually make money from it. Why? Because it takes time to really start getting an audience who want to read your content. If you’re serious about blogging, and have time to really dedicate to it (and I mean post a few times a day), then you could potentially gain a steady stream of revenue from it. But it isn’t by any means ‘passive’ income, in the sense you have to continue giving your readers something worth coming back for. Here is a great article that illustrates howGoogle AdSense works.
If you want to start blogging, I would suggest:
1. Picking a URL and site name that are going to be directly relevant to what you’re posting about.
2. Spending time posting good content, and interesting content that will be targeted to your audience.
3. Post consistently.
Blogging won’t make you rich overnight, but it can definitely increase revenue over time.
